Study of the biology of the mosquito tiger Aedes
albopictus (afegir)
Since the detection of the mosquito tiger in the Baix Llobregat
in 2005, the SCM is studying diferent characteristics of the biology
of this insect that can allow a better larval and adult control.
The present projects affect in the study of the larval urban habitat
and in the population dynamics of the adults throughout the year.
For more information about this mosquito, consult www.mosquitigre.org.
Surveillance of arboviruses transmited by insects (sandflies and
mosquitoes)
The presence of arbovirus in Spain was surveilled in the network
of the of arbovirus and arthropods research organized by the Research
Institute Carlos III of Madrid (2001-2006), with participation
of different organizations such as the Baix Llobregat Council and
the Centre de Recerca de Sanita Ambiental (CreSA). Different diagnostic
tests of arbovirus, mainly for Flavivirus, Alphavirus and Phlebovirus
genera are carried out with special interest in West Nile virus.
This virus is at present a major concern in USA and has sporadic
outbreaks in Europe and other parts of the world. During 2008,
we plan to analize the presence of the virus Chikungunya in samples
of mosquitos of the Baix Llobregat.
